Thirty six participants and two volunteers dressed in grey t-shirts made their way to Peterborough on a very comfortable coach, courtesy of our generous donors.

In spite of the MAMT Ladies Tournament 2011 being held this year on the 1st October for one day in Peterborough, it was probably the highest number that Birmingham has ever been represented by. It was a pleasant atmosphere with various ups and downs and slight injuries, but generally everything went efficiently and most participants left happier following the traditional mouth-watering biryani. I believe it was an unforgettable one day tournament as the most important purpose of the event was to meet new people and have a more friendly competition in different sports. I look forward for next year’s tournament being better and more successful.

The Ladies MAMT tournament 2011 was an amazing experience for our girls from the Birmingham Jamaat. We were lucky enough to have the beautiful weather on our side as it was the hottest day of the year. The tournament gave our young girls a good opportunity to socialize, make new friends and to build on their people skills in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Our participants from Birmingham as a whole did exceptionally well with winning a number of trophies and coming out on top in a number of games. Congratulations to all those who won and performed well in the tournament, also to those who participated and demonstrated excellent mannerism and sportsmanship.

Saturday Morning - all ready for the big DAY, THE TOURNAMENT. We left for Peterborough from Birmingham; all of us bursting with excitement!!! After lovely breakfast, the tournament began. People were playing Badminton, netball, football and swimming. Everyone was playing with such enthusiasm and sportsmanship, competing for their own Jamaats. The morning session of games was followed by lunch. Our lunch, well what can I say - such tasty burgers, fries, pizza and sandwiches I just couldn't stop eating!!! Then we went back to our games. I was playing football with my team trying to do as best as we could!
Finally came the time for the swimming competition; I was so nervous i wanted to forfeit, but then I thought to myself whatever happens I'm here to have fun!
I competed and out of 5/6 people and I came second for all three races.
At the end of competitions, we had a very heart warming speech from all the organizers, trophies and medals were presented to the winners and runners up.
Thank you to all the organizers and participants who made this possible for us.
Zahra Lalji.

Sports tournament August 2010

najiyaatsports3

najiyaatsports4

Despite the summer wedding season and Mahe Ramadhan starting in the following week, fourteen participants including two spectators headed for Peterborough to participate in the ‘MAMT Ladies Tournament’ in the 2nd weekend of August.

It was probably the lowest number Birmingham has ever been represented by, yet the girls managed not only to bring quite a few trophies home but also have an awesome time. The feedback received from the girls was positive and encouraging.

The weekend was as usual very well organised by COEJ and Birmingham definitely enjoyed socialising, competing, the change of environment and obviously the food!

The Birmingham team for 2010 included:
Ayman Fazal Mahera Fazal Sugra Ladak
Azmina Elias Masuma Fazal Sukaina Ibrahim
Fatima Fazal Sarah Noormohamed Zainab Jiwa
Fatema Zahra Ali Shaziya Jaffer Zainab Naqvi
Ma’asuma Naqvi Sherbanu Dhirani
