P1010378_1024x768The 24th of Feburary saw the first Madrassah value day of 2013, an enlightening seminar with renowned expert in youth coaching – Harry Singha.

The conference immediately kicked off with Harry engaging his enthusiastic audience by narrating his personal life story, achievements and experiences. Being quite an entertaining individual, Harry managed to capture every child’s attention through humour and his vivacious personality.  Within moments, everyone was having an enjoyable time participating and interacting in the exciting and informative sessions lined up.

Accompanying Harry were two young coaches that had undergone the training workshops. The young men delivered a brief presentation of how Harry had helped them in realising their potential and how they remain focused. One of the trainers was an Olympic player who gave an inspirational talk which greatly impressed the students. Come break-time and he was bombarded with students waving books in the air asking for his autograph.

Ashre Zainabiya Workshops 2013

During the month of November during my Madrasah class the tragic events of Gaza came up
in discussion. As I explained to the students the ordeal that many human beings were going through due to the conflict, especially women and children in Gaza you could see their hearts sinking. You could see the effect it had on them and the fact that they were determined to do something, no matter how big or small to make a difference and to help.

I then gave them a few pointers as to how to raise money to support the people of gaza. They then went away and came back with ideas that I had never thought off and put them into action. On the 3rd December with the assistance of Muhammad Abbas Rashid they went about collecting money by selling sweets, cakes, chocolates, drinks, homemade cookies and Islamic books. From just a couple of hours they managed to collect £273.90. It was unbelievable how motivated and eager they were to collect this money. In addition one of the students parents donated £130 to bring the total to over £400.

This success was completed down to the students hard work and dedication in supporting the needy cause in Gaza. Please remember the students and the people of
Gaza in your duas.
