Message From Organisor:

It is my pleasure to invite you to a special lecture at Thinktank
Planetarium on the evening of Saturday 4th November.

Astronomy has been an essential part of Islam since its earliest days.
Across the Islamic world, observatories mapped the stars to high precision
and helped drive the western Renaissance. Even today, mosques rely on
predictions of the visibility of the new crescent Moon to know when each new
Islamic month should begin.

Using the capabilities of Thinktank's digital planetarium, astronomers Dr
Robert Massey, Usama Hasan and Dr Steven Bell will investigate the
importance of astronomy to Islam.

Dr Robert Massey is Public Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich;
Usama Hasan is a senior lecturer at Middlesex University and planetarium
lecturer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich; and Dr Steven Bell is project
leader at HM Nautical Almanac Office.

Please note: this will be our sixth evening lecture this year, and like the
previous five, we expect it to sell out quickly - so be sure to book early!
